The Making of a Modern Mother

So I have been thinking about this for a while...starting a little theme on the blog where I would ask questions or give my opinion and listen to what you readers had to say.

AND...

Since getting pregnant the only thing I am interested in is BABY and most of you know a lot about baby, I put two and two together and realized you were probably my best source of info.

I am super overwhelmed with everything and feel like I am missing so much.

I mean I didn't take a prenatal pill til month 3 because I was so barfy and then I freaked that my baby wouldn't have a spinal cord (imagine snake like creature with legs and arms)
The next worry was that I wasn't getting enough iron and I tried to figure out what source of food would give me iron besides drinking my own blood (like a cannibal vampire...?)
Slowly I figured some things out but I am so far from convinced that I know what is going on.

This is where you come in. I need you!

I posted on fb that I thought I was starting to feel a little baby move in my belly. I was hoping for comments on what it felt like for everyone the first time they felt 'movement' but after reading comments which were mostly jokes about gas and indigestion, I realized that was probably not the right outlet to get some serious info.

So here's your chance. Help me figure this whole thing out!

What did it feel like the first time you felt your little bean move?

I felt some gas like bubbling (only tiny bubbling) but it was happening in the same general area repeatedly for days. Some have described it as butterfly wings too. I felt the first flutterings at around 14 weeks with my first. Some said that wasn't what it was but I know that's what it was! Trust your own insticts! Mother's intuition is usually right.

for the fist couple of weeks i felt movement i told jesse and he was like oh its just gas so i was like ok then i thought well i have never had gas before so it had to be the baby. just wait till grayson starts to feel it move thats when it gets to be fun.

I felt bubbles and fluttering feelings and wondered the same thing. The first time I knew it was the baby was when I kind of squatted/bent down to pick up some spilled beads off the floor and felt a distinct nudge. I think I squooshed him!...and he let me know! So I did it a couple more times and it happened again. I think I was like 15 weeks. I can't wait for the first time the baby kicks your bladder...I think we'll get a blog post about it! :)

Don't worry about the pre-natal pills. I didn't take many at all for both of my pregnancies as I felt so ill and they made it worse. My first I was SUPER ill for 4 months and probably only ate cereal and a little fruit that entire time. I lost 20 lbs before I ever gained anything.

as for baby moving I couldn't describe it any other way except that it felt like I was being punched from the inside (crazy I know ;) I always pictured a little boxer in my belly. It is exciting and soon enough you will be hoping that baby stops kicking when 'it' makes you pee your pants.

So the butterfly feeling is pretty good description. I also thought it tickled a bit or like my stomach started doing little summersaults. With Benson I was pretty well 18 weeks on the dot but with the other two it was earlier as I knew what it felt like. congrats!!

The first movement feels like butterflies fluttering in your stomach...then when it really starts moving it feels like you have some sort of alien that is ready to start busting out through your abdomen. When you get further along it's really cool because you can sit in the bath tub and watch your entire stomach moving and it gets almost creepy because it looks like there is an alien about ready to come busting out:)

I never felt the "Butterflies" But I remember with Jonas it was Conference and I was laying on my stomach on the couch and I could feel a tapping from inside, totally weird!

Fluttering and tapping also, and I really think that when it happens you will know. You just do. I have low iron and go into half zombie living for 9 months- I end up taking additional iron supplements and then eating a whole lot of meat, spinach and beans to keep myself feeling a bit more perky. It sort of helps.. maybe. Good luck! And ill admit im rooting for a BOY for you. Its a good way to start!

OOh, right now this little guy grotesquely disfigures my entire tummy every time he moves! I felt Elaina move at 17 weeks for the first time. You truly could mistake it for gas bubbles. As the baby gets stronger you'll be more sure.

Mine started as little flutterings too. Almost like indigestion. Such a strange feeling, but so cool!! So excited for you!

With Sophie I felt a little tap tap tap- like someone poking me with a finger from the inside! But it never felt like that again. After that it just felt like a really big gas bubble wiggling inside. Dont' worry, the bigger the baby gets the more you'll feel! Just wait till you feel hiccups!

For me it was fluttering/bubblies like everyone else said, but one way it's distinct from gas is that it's right in front and feels like it's right under your skin. Like someone else said, if you have your lower belly pressing up against something you may feel the baby distinctly push back. I felt this baby really early on because of that.
And about your pills-- you can only do the best you can do!
